i=intervention, collaborations with local artists to intervene/perform next to The Wishing Fountain, and use it as their coin-bucket. the money generated from each intervention/performance and collected in The Wishing Fountain's lap is considered public money and is available to anyone in need. If you are interested in performing, please drop me a line rmajzoub@236m3.com or give me a call 03918291
You either know her as The Body Jeweler, the shiny mother of CERA BARR, an ex Wing, or the voice of Mother Mantra. Sarah Barraj passed by The Wishing Fountain, experimented with money-making genres that would suit the streets of Beirut, hippily explained the concept to EVERYONE that passed by, then accidentally starred in a report by AlJadeedTV on The Wishing Fountain.

Samah came out of the Metro for a little gig on the streets of Beirut playing the gorgeous Pianolla, part of Metro AlMadina's "Hishik Bishik Show" repertoire. Everyone danced. It was beautiful.

Frida Chehlaoui performed her songs and songs-in-progress next to The Wishing Fountain. In addition to the money collected in the fountain's lap, to be shared by Beirut, Frida stirred up this little segment of Hamra for a good half hour. The kids joined on percussions. A boring café-goer asked them to stop. One passing garbage man had a brief 'mawwal' interlude, and a young musician was recruited for a future intervention.

Joan Baz passed by The Wishing Fountain and decided to give out illustrated receipts to passersby in return for their wishes/coins. She will continue to experiment with her newfound role as the fountain's bookkeeper throughout the month. Check out the .gif below for some of the quick portraits/receipts.

The Wishing Fountain -  مال عام

‘The Wishing Fountain – مال عام’ is a public art installation in Hamra Street allowing people of the city to share money with each other while raising awareness about the escalating street beggars phenomenon and the increasing privatization and self-centeredness in urban Lebanon today.
